[pct-l] The BIG BUFFET

Just reading about the buffets at South Lake Tahoe. I had the same deal in 77
and a highlight of my hike. We hit echo lake summit on a Sunday so the post
office was closed.(no food drop till Monday) After eating cup of soup and
space food sticks for the last 4 days, I was ready for real food! It is a 13
mile thumb to South Lake Tahoe and I still had 5 bucks. First stop was the
Golden Nugget with an all you could eat buffet for 2.49. After wearing the
same wool pants and wool sweater for 2 plus weeks without a bath, people
looked at us like a couple of leppers or manson family want -to -be,s. Nothing
smells quite like wet sweaty wool. (no pile or fleece on the trail yet) We
were lucky with no bouncer trouble, slept in woods above to parking lot that
night. In the mouning, we had an all you can eat breakfast for 1.99. After
breakfast I hit the nickel machine and won my 5 dollars back! (true story)
This was a great memory for me on the trail as I was 19 years old then and was
a bit nervous playing slots. ps Future hikers would do well not to miss this
little side trip, (esp. with about 2 months of corn pasta under your belt)
tongue-in-cheek
