[pct-l] Thruhiking

I'll be sending the first "installment" of the Thruhiking planning mess
out in a few minutes.  If you've asked for it and don't get it, get back
to me and we'll try again.  

This first one is 1/ a test run and 2/ some basic understanding stuff -
my ground rules.  The next one will be out tomorrow or Wednesday.
