It is my humble duty to point out that despite what guidebooks tell you and
what you think the weather will do, things could very well turn out a little
differently. Take my experience, for example. When I hiked from Scissor's
Crossing into the San Felipes, it was about 50 degrees and the wind was
blowing like you wouldn't believe. I spent the night in the sandy wash halfway
through the San Felipes, and that's when it started raining. I woke up in the
rain, and by the time I had hiked about a mile, the temperature with wind
chill was below freezing, with driving wind and rain. I had all my layers on
and I was still cold. It was a miserable day, and the only redeemable event of
the day was seeing a fox on the trail only ten feet in front of me when I
rounded a switchback. I ended up walking the 15 miles to Barrel Springs in one
push with no breaks, then walked the next 8 miles into Warner Springs and got
rescued from the storms. So, moral of the story is, be prepared for any kinds
of conditions, no matter what the general consensus is or what people tell you
with absolute certainty.
