:Weight is an interesting subject with respect to long distance hiking.
:Most men lose a lot of it - and most women lose little or noe (some even
:gain a few pounds). But the women get their revenge --- because the men
:usually regain all their weight loss and often more.
Well, I've never gone on a long-distance hike (defined as longer than a
week) and not lost weight. This past summer my daughter and I hiked the
Colorado Trail (about 480 miles) in six weeks, and each of us lost about 15
pounds -- and that was with a town stop every weekend that included three or
four hearty (and I mean hearty) meals. I also lost weight when I hiked the
JMT a few years ago (3 weeks), though I don't remember anymore how much. I
don't lose any weight on week-long hikes, though.
