I don't believe I ever did introduce myself, so here's a quickie!  

I'm a 46 year old male, native of Massachusetts, currently residing in
Maryland.  Professional painter by trade, right now I'm unemployed, so I have
lots of free time!  On a move from Mass to Florida in the summer of '96, I had
a week long stop in the Smoky Mountains.  Not having backpacked in over 25
years, this was strictly a car camping vacation.  I had the very good fortune
of meeting a couple that had thru-hiked the AT in '92.  Not knowing much about
the trail other than it was there, and being inquisitive by nature, I asked
all sorts of questions.  Within weeks of settling down in Jacksonville, I
started  planning for thru-hiking the AT myself. 

It took me a little time, but I completed the trail this year.  And now I'm
back for more.  I'm early stages of planning on a PCT thru-hike, hopefully
beginning in May of '99.  Unless I get a job real quick, it's unlikely to be a
classic south to north endeavor, but if I start, I'll get the trail done some
way. 

Long distance hiking has seriously gotten into my blood.  Ultimately, I'd also
like to do the CDT, among other long distance trails.


At times, I have a strange sense of humor and can actually find the flame wars
funny, but as a few have already mentioned, it's best to keep it civil.  We
can all disagree with ideas, personal attacks in public, do very little to
enhance the list.

For now, I'll mostly lurk and try to use the information gathered here in
other to reach my goals.
