Climbing Mt. Rainier requires ice axe, crampons, rope, and a fair
degree of experience in their use. The standard route takes at
least two days and involves significant time on glacier ice. The
weather can be extreme in any season. The weather and icefalls kill
a couple people a year, on average. There is a commercial guide
service that has an excellent reputation. The guide service can
provide equipment and training.
On the other hand, many people make the climb on a busy day. The
climb does not require exceptional strength or endurance. The views
are magnificent (in good weather).
