Downloading the maps for a section hike would sure beat photocopying, or
worse yet, cutting up the Guides.<<

I scanned the "big picture" map that preceeds the detailed trail
description for use on that page. I would be fairly certain that would be
covered under fair use docterine. That page is on the PCTA site (My
limmited free space from netcom was full) so I suppose it is a PCTA page

A while back the PCTA rec'd fairly liberal permission to use stuff in the
guidebooks from Wilderness Press (Winett is a GREAT guy). However, mass
copying of the strip maps was on on the permission list. It would negate
the need to buy the guidebood for many folks, and I would like to see as
many of them sold as possible. According to Schaffer, WP loses money on the
guides, and would prefer it if they made money so they keep publishing them.

Perhaps we should all buy 2 copies of each volume. One to sit on the shelf
and one to cut up into sections..... That is how I have mine organized. I
even bring the sections back so I can re-use them.
