I just spoke to Brian Sweet of Saugerties, New York. He is now at
Kennedy Meadows. He says several have bugged out and many are going to
Manning to start south or up to Sierra City to continue. He says it is
doable and about 10 more hikers are not far behind him. He has been
getting 25 miles per day with some 6 mile days in the snow and now
expects to drop to 15. He will be useing cross country skies. The
resupply point at Kenndey says it is the first time they can recall a
PCT hiker mailing skies. Brian says he has not been following the trail
as much as he follows the ridges and expects to do the same with the cc
skies. Brian plans on leaving Kennedy this afternoon and being at the
VVR in 12 days. Brian did say that there had been 1 hiker before him to
Kennedy but said that he was going out to Belden.
Good Luck Brain,
