[pct-l] Re: pct-l-digest V1 #484

Section hiking the PCT, or any other long trail, is in some ways superior to
thru-hiking. First, since you don't have to worry about making time, you
can hike the sections in optimum weather conditions. Second, unlike
thru-hikers, you will become very familiar with many of the approaches to
the trail you're hiking. Third, nutrition and food-related issues take on
less importance. Some other, less significant, considerations: The
ALDHA-West considers completing the PCT, CDT, and AT by section hikes equal
to thru-hiking them, for purposes of claiming Triple Crown status. Speed
and daily mileage are far less important to a section-hiker, so if you have
any qualms about missing something by going too fast, or blowing out your
knees or getting injured due to excessive haste, section hiking removes the
reason for feeling that way.
