[pct-l] Snow, snow, snow

Hearing that the current group of thru-hikers is stuck in Idyllwild has
sent a wave of panic over me! I'm sitting up here in Seattle and am
planning on leaving for San Diego next Tuesday. Soooo, I'm wondering if
anybody out there knows how the group is going to handle this challenge.

What are the options in this situation? Are there trails that mimic the
Crest, but are several thousand feet lower where no snow remains?
Simply skipping ahead sounds like a bad idea since you'll just be running
into more snow. Would it be more prudent to sit tight for another month
and then go like Hell for the Canadian border? Heading south is an
option, but if I were to use a Jardine schedule, I'd still have to wait a
month and I'd finish in October, and I'd like to be back in time for
Autumn Quarter. Unfortunatley, I can't simply say "Next year." Rats.
I'm open to all advice!

Here's some more snow info I just got from a guy who lives in Carson City
(thanks Tim!): it recently dumped a foot of the white stuff on top of a
100" base in the Sierras. YEEEEHHHHAAAAA!!! Now there's more snow to
love, and more to posthole through!
