[pct-l] Re: pct-l-digest V1 #448

Ryel --

I just got my plane tix -- I'm arriving in San Diego at noonish on April
29th. I too am a bit sketched out about the first few days -- I've heard a
lot of talk about nighttime activity (Border Patrol/alien skirmishing) in
the first several days' hike. I'm hoping there will be a bunch of us
starting around May 1, and I know I would feel safer in a loose group for a
few days until we get into our repective grooves.

I hope this year is not a sucky year to thru-hike. When I thru-hiked the AT
in '96, it was a wet wet year (Hurricaines Bertha and Fran, etc etc etc),
following a killer winter that produced raging melt streams and blackfly
hordes in Maine (I southbounded). Despite the "bad" conditions, the hike
was a great experience.

Corn pasta is available in most bulk/natural food stores (aka co-ops).
There are also some mail order outlets for it, but at this stage I don't
know if you could turn around an order in time. I've noticed that not many
people actually enjoy the taste/texture -- you're lucky!

See ya in a few weeks!
John
