I would appreciate advise from anyone's experience on the PCT
regarding the amount of warm clothing necessary for various sections
of the trail. I would like to really cut back on bulk and weight of basic
gear/clothing, while still allowing for the necessity of carrying
water in S. CA.
For example, it would appear that southern CA could
vary between 90+ degrees F. in the low deserts to below freezing (at
night only?) in the high areas (Lagunas, San Jacintos, San Gabriels,
and, especially the Sierras).
Are pile jackets and pile pants considered typically necessary or
would light polypro long underwear suffice?
