In some places I remember, the pipes were gone. In others the faucets were
missing, and a coroded galvanized cap was in it's place. I think it would
take more than pliers to get it off..........

This is mostly a concern in the area between Wrightwood and the LA
Aquaduct. Many campgrounds I visited as a child are now unused because of
lack of water.
