[pct-l] forest service lands WHERE AT?

I have a freind of mine who works//volunteers as a real estate specialist for a very green enviromental organization in the San Bernardino Mountains. In these mountains that he can find parcels on the bidding block in Cherry Valley, and Rancho Cucamonga - both in the foothills, both in hightly developable land. The ones in Cherry Valley is adjacent to a county park. Both of these areas are far (10 miles as crow flies) from the PCT and I do not know the specifics of the other areas. My fear that this is the middle of a slippery slope that could affect our green areas and our beloved PCT.

Folks from the PCTA are headed to Washington DC (nor' easter' notwithstanding) at this very moment for their annual "Hike the Hill." While there, they are going to get the maps of the proposed land sales and do whatever they can to fulfill their mission -- to protect and preserve the Pacific Crest Trail. There is an interagency MOU that gets reaffirmed and re-executed every few years, which outlines the commitment of the agencies to do the same thing. You can bet that the PCTA's volunteer lobbyists will be doing their homework and sitting on the desks of members of Congress and the Department of Agriculture on this topic. The land sale sure seems like an all-out assault on what we all hold dear.
