[pct-l] Squatch's "Still Walking"

Scott's doing another yo-yo? Let's strap in and go for a ride!

Tonight, no two nights ago, I blew it up with my fiance so bad that I think she may start listening to me about this thru-hiking, and a friend of mine Reeser brought over a book this evening about middle-aged folks hiking the trail, and on the back cover there was a photo of boardwalk over New Jersey swamp and I thought, "Holy crap, I have pictures of Wayah walking on this walk," and don't you know what these people mean, don't you know that thru-hikers--no matter how many times or how far they have gone--keep reading, keep seeing and knowing how far there is to go, and I blew it up on her in anticipation (really of having to fire someone from a big salary job) and wondered, "Will I hike again," YOU DOG GONE RIGHT ... I'm going to hike again," and that's what made me mad, until I pulled out my old AT pictures, "old" because they are mind (mine) from '98, and I cannot or believe that even with my procrastination and slackness that I've preserved those photos (the girls are shocked
that I'd hang my legs over some rock ledge in VA--c'mon, you know the one) ... Daddy showed up 3/4 mile short of Baxter temples (okay, that's dramatic: temples=shelters at the base of K) and I left with him ... we climbed Katahdin together the next morning at the crack of dawn, and when we came back down (Daddy did all 10,000' elevation gain/loss over 10 miles--We stood together and touched the sign.), Baltimore Jack told my dad, "You don't see a Daddy do that."

Now years later, my dad says, "I was surprised you went with me back to the hostel," and I say, "Daddy, I was sick ... I don't care if I'd walked all the way there from Georgia."

"No one can ever take this away from you."--Baltimore Jack--Base of Katahdin
