I would like to recommend that if you are looking for a great indoor way to
keep in training for the trail use a Precor Elliptical machine. I have one
in my exercise room at home and have used it for years.
I put an old college book bag on my back with water bottles and towels in it
to simulate my GoLite Breeze pack. No waist belts on the packs.
I set the Precor computer for various terrain elevation changes as I "walk".
Then I turn on the CD player and stereo and take off for 50 minutes of
exercising.
What is nice about an elliptical machine is the ease on your joints. It is
a joy to use. If you want even more of a workout, then put on ankle weights
and wrist weights. I usually set the resistant setting at 9 to make it
harder.
You can get different brands of elliptical machines, but I found the Precor
brand to be best. But it is very expensive. Make sure you carefully test
out different products before your purchase. We are talking major league cash
here. Over $3,000. We have never regretted it and use it all the time.
Very nice.
This along with walking at the park 5 times week with my loaded pack is
about all I can do for training. I need it.
Hey, I just thought of something. That three grand would have paid for a
PCT thru hike. RATS!
