I too was harassed (PCT '05) by a mountain lion near Borrego AND Barrel
Springs. The Bear I saw at our camp in Onion Valley is most likely the same
one that attacked the ranger a week later... The snakes were of little
concern after these events. The bear had fire in his eyes. The cat was
hungry... But if you think a fire arm or some weapon will help you; your
dead wrong.
Weapons are only usefull for offense attack. Defense is best secured by
knowlege of where you are and what your environment is. Hiking in groups in
suspectable areas is a great deterent to wildlife. Eating, food preperation
and food choice and proper storage of food helps too.
aloha, Pygmy
ps see ya at the Kick Off ya'll.
