Thanks for this article. A good case for the end of what seems just as
stupid - bear canisters and bear lockers. If all hikers and campers carried
bear spray or guns and kept their food with/near them, luring and then
frightening the bears nearly to death if they chose to come near humans, the
bears would re-learn fear of man! They, like many wolves, have no fear of
man left because there are no natural unfortunate consequences to the bear
that result from contact! Thus, they feel free to come right up to our
tents/bags/packs and forage. Why not??
