[pct-l] Ice Axe Straps

Ground Pounder Bill "Semper Fi" asked about ice axe straps.  I use two, both 
tied with 15 mm tubular nylon.  The short strap is tied with a Water Knot, 
just long enough to pass across the top of the ice axe and around your wrist 
with no play.  That allows your whole uphill arm, and not just your fingers, 
to take the strain of a self arrest.  The second strap is supplementary and 
long enough to fit snugly around your downhill wrist where it grips the ice 
axe near the bottom.  It's tied with an Adjustable Hunter Loop.  For 
security, leave fairly long tails on both knots.  For more information and
