[pct-l] Re:] Fatigues & Ovens

When I see Army or Marine fatigues on the trail, the next thing I look for
is a knife or a gun. They usually follow each other. Oh yes don't forget the
machete. Macho Macho Macho man or wanta be man. See what a morning cup of
coffee does to me!

I been off line or out of line over the Holidays, so I will cover a few
topics. Ovens. We use to make ovens out of stones shaped like a beehive with a
small opening at botton and a large rock on top so you can insert pot.. I just
used my grease pot which was a best seller about ten years ago at Target for
cooking on the trail. Open up a Betty Crocker cake mix, fellow directions,
wrap in foil, gather up sticks, insert sticks in opening light, keep inserting
sticks; stones will get almost red hot you can hear them crack and pop.
Carefully remove top rock and insert pot onto hot ashes and stones. Let bake to
till tooth pick clean. Mix icing and carefully remove pot from oven, remove
cake from well grease pot let cool. Put on icing while coffee is boiling.
Enjoy!

I hear that some of our cutting edge light weight gear manufacturers are
designing some of their shelter products with views for the spring
backpacking
season. That is very good and we now have the ball moving in the right
direction in this area.

Now there is another thing we have to do to change the backpacking world.
That is to get all the manufacturers to make their products in stealth
colors.
I think the US Marines new cammo colors are great.

Just think if your bag, pack, and shelter were all stealth. Neat. For
example, you could be walking along the trail and say to yourself, "Didn't
I just
pass someone on the trail? I would have said hello if I had seen someone."

Cool.

Yes, we must start the movement toward blending into nature. Being
transparent out there. Not bringing our commercialism and gaudy bright
colors into
Mother Nature. We must encourage the manufacturers to compete with each
other
for the most stealth gear.

Thank you for your support and encouragement.
