[pct-l] Illegal Marijuana

I don't know about you all, but I've seen pot plants on more than a few
of my hikes....
Not "plantations", just a bush here and there.
I think they're the result of trailside "cleaning".

If you're so inclined, the Cleveland NF between Fallbrook and Corona
(and in particular- the San Mateo Wilderness) has little patches here
and there. Mostly near the trailheads, though I've seen bushes right
alongside the trail up to 4 miles into the trail.

I rarely see mature plants (actually, I don't think I've seen a fully
mature plant at all). Mostly little plants that have been mowed down by
deer (or some other animal that grazes). Either the wildlife finds these
more tasty than the usual fare, or the smell attracts more than other
plants.

Or maybe it's bugs that chew `em down. I notice them because they're
eaten down to the stalks. Stuff like that tends to catch my eye. Like
bear scratches on a tree, cairns or that lone fence post out in the
middle of nowhere. It don't look exactly natural.

Though I've been told that marijuana is natural to North America. Is
this true? If so, I imagine if you make an effort to find it wild, it'd
be out there.
