I use electrolyte drinks like most hikers. I like lemonade or orange
flavors best, but sometimes they are a little short on knock down trail taste. Try
adding a little Crystal Light to your drink. This will really enhance the
flavor. I like the "On The Go" tubes of Crystal Light. They are very
convenient to use on the trail.
By the way, some cold Crystal Light lemonade and Jippy Pop popcorn in the
evening is a nice way to end a tough day of campaigning on the trail. I find
that canisters stoves work best for popping popcorn.
Note: For my early morning breakfast drink on the trail I use Nature's Plus
Spiru-tein high protein energy meal (get at Wild Oats) with powder milk.
Very tasty. Chocolate and strawberry are my favorites. I eat breakfast on the
trail with a drink and a bar, like LaraBars. I waste no time in morning camp
and let the hot sun get a jump on me. My philosophy is that as soon as I
can barely see the trail, I should be walking. I figure that by 9 A.M. the sun
is in charge out there and it is a battle of survival (of course in
fall-winter hiking season, it is not so bad). That means from 5:30 A.M. to 9 A.M. I
have had cool to moderate temperature walking and may be covered 6 miles or
so. Not a bad way to start each day in my favor.
