[pct-l] GPS and PCT
I think all this business of loading maps on these devices with their
tiny screens and cramped key pads is all dead end technology. By the
time I am ready to thru-hike the PCT I expect that there will be
satellite based lasers beaming a highly visible red line right on the
terrain showing exactly where the PCT route is continuing across snow
covered trail, blow downs, stream crossings and every thing else day
or night. I'll also have a device about the size of a Nano that will
give me voice prompts to keep me on task. This device will have
several optional voices, but I'll choose a sultry female voice that
says things like, "Hold on there, studmuffin, where are you taking
us? I think the trail is about 50 yards to your left." Or "I'm sure
enjoying the leisurely pace you've set, you gorgeous hunk, but at our
current rate we'll be about half way up Forester Pass when the sun
sets. You might give some though to where we're going to spend the
night." This is technology I can use.
