[pct-l] Up Date on Big Horn Sheep

Update on a recent bighorn die-off and related capture
As some of you may have heard through the various media, the Institute
documented seven adult bighorn mortalities in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto
Mountains between July 28th and August 15th. The majority of the deaths occurred
in the northern Santa Rosa Mountains near Rancho Mirage. This high number of
deaths in such a short period of time was determined to be a ?die-off.? It
was decided by both the state and federal wildlife agencies to capture and
sample bighorn to investigate the cause of the ?die-off.? From September 27th
through September 30th, thirty-eight bighorn were captured and sampled in the
Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains. Results are pending, but we hope to gain
some knowledge about these deaths.
