Boy, talk about an edgy list lately, either some of you need to get out and hike or you are hiking and have burrs under your tent! (IMHO of course!)
On Wed, 02 Nov 2005 17:52:26 -0500, hiker97@aol.com had this to say:
>1. CAMERA: This changes all the time, but here are some good bets.
First, the Canon Power Shot SD500 - 7 ounces. It is around $450. Or
the Canon SD300 - 5 ounces at around $310. The SD300 has a 4 MP, 3X
optical zoom, and a large 2-inch LCD viewer that takes EXCELLENT
pictures. Its menus are not quite as good as the Casino ultra compacts, but
still very good. Built like a tank.
I wouldn't BET on the Casino ultra compacts but I like(d) my Casio EX-Z30 camera, it survived drops, a rock falling on it and lots of dust, but it didn't do so well with a dunking in a stream. It is in the repair shop now waiting for a new LCD display. My new Pentax WATERPROOF camera will arrive tomorrow. They both use propriety batteries, the Casio's is twice the size and lasts a lot longer. Hoping to use a solar recharger on the PCT. The Casio also comes in 4 & 5 megapixal models (all the same physical size) but I've never even used the full resolution of mine (3 mp) because I use mine mainly for sending via the web and posting on line.
For those of you who hike big miles/long days, do you still use a down jacket in camp or do you not need it because you go to bed right away rather than sit around camp?
Vic
Hiking because I love it, even when I don't stop to smell the flowers.
