Before my 2004 hike, my optometrist set me up with daily disposable lenses, then convinced me to take them out nightly and keep wearing them until they became uncomfortable. I started with a 30 day supply.
I carried 1 set of backups with me, and bounced the rest. I carried a sample bottle of solution and used 2 drops for each lens each night. I rinsed my fingers each night with a mouthful of water. When the solution in the lens case was clean, i would use a drop from it to wet the lens in the morning, otherwise i would use a drop from the bottle.
I think I got pretty lucky with the fit of the lenses. 18 months later, I am still using that initial 30 day supply.
Just my thoughts.

O.K., I gotta know this...
What is the consensus regarding the use of contact lenses in the backcountry
and on extended trips:
- Leave 'em at home and use glasses?
- Use a daily wear variety?
- Take the multi-week, keep-in-your-eyes kind and change 'em out at the
next resupply?
Those of you with contacts, what do you do?
