Do whatever works for you at home.
I've used both of these on the trail:
(1) the kind that you leave in for a week at a time, and
(2) the kind you put in each morning and throw away each night.
I like type (2) best. No need to carry solutions, clean eyes every day (good when the dust blows), better for your eyes.

What is the consensus regarding the use of contact lenses in the backcountry
and on extended trips:
- Leave 'em at home and use glasses?
- Use a daily wear variety?
- Take the multi-week, keep-in-your-eyes kind and change 'em out at the
next resupply?
Those of you with contacts, what do you do?
