[pct-l] Finishers on he PCT

I would gander that the number is quite a bit more than 75. I hiked the 600 miles in Oregon and NCAL in August and ran into about about 100 northbounders enthusiist. Of these about 75 had every intention of completing. Only about 20 of these were pure - without flipping or skipping or taking weeks off. So my guess for the class of 2005 is 123.

Ed,

Whilst more people (in absolute terms) may finish in 2005 than '98, my
understanding is that many fewer people started in '98. Your numbers and the
data book suggest a 30% completion rate in '98.

If 70-75 finish this year, that points to a c.25% completion rate, based on
at least 288 starters (from Bob Riess). The toughest year given in the
databook was '95, where it suggests only 10 of 75 people made it to the end
(13%).
