[pct-l] The Great Bar Project

We, as thru-hikers, eat many bars, energy, candy, power, etc.
We, as thru-hikers, frequently have nothing to read on the trail.
We, as thru-hikers, religiously read nutrition facts.

As such, I, along with my hiking partner Zip, am planning to compile a
website that has all of the bar information in the world on it. It is a
massive project, and I need help. I need bar information. Lots of it. I
need wrappers. Lots of them.

The goal of this project is to create an online database that can be
used to search for, say, the bar with the most iron/weight, or the
highest density of complex carbohydrates, or the ones that have flax
seed in them. Etc. We eat a lot of bars. I ate around three hundred of
them during my trip - probably more. We should eat them wisely, and as
such, the website must be made.

So, if you want to help, there are a couple things you can do:
1. For the time being, you can just start sending me your wrappers so
that I can put them in the database. In the future, you'll want to check
the database before sending them to me to see if they're in there already.
2. You can put the nutritional information in a tab delimited text file
or in an excel spreadsheet, and send that to me via email. The address
to send that to is nutrifacts@aidshike.org. I need all of the
nutritional facts from each bar, including grams of everything that's in
the neat chart on bars as well as the ingredients in them. I also need
to know how big the bar itself is.

If you choose to send me wrappers, the address to send them to is this:
1811 Fairview St.
Berkeley, CA 94703

And, just to clarify, I'm interested in all types of bars - energy,
nutritional, candy, protein, etc.

If you have any questions about this massive project, or want to
volunteer your services further, let me know.

Sincerely, lovingly, nutritionally,

Dr. Patch O'Malley IV
