I have to admit, this is something I can't really offer any advice on. I've
never cleaned a hydration system in my life.

I use denture tablets to clean my hydration bags.   Fill 3/4 full with warm
or hot water and drop in 2-4 denture tablets.  Shake, let it sit, shake,
drain, rinse and repeat if needed.
