After leaving the trail at the end of May, Trail Dog and Marmot returned to
complete our PCT section hike from Campo to Walker Pass, hiking Section E
Tehachapi Pass to Walker Pass the last week of August. We started in triple
digit temperatures. At that time, the seasonal streams were dry. The data
book water sources still had water. Below are the details on the water
sources then.
8/27/05 Walker Pass Trailhead Campground had lots of water from two faucets.
8/26/05 McIvers Spring had strong flow from pipe near McIvers Cabin.
8/25/05 Bird Spring Pass cache had 10 gallons of water.
8/24/05 Kelso Vally Road cache had 50 liters of water.
8/24/05 Landers Camp Fire tank (0.3 mile N down a dirt road SNF 29S05) was
full and had good clear water flowing well from a pipe.
8/24/05 Concrete dam of spring uphill from PCT was full and fairly clear.
8/23/05 Robin Bird Spring had an excellent flow. Go through the gate on the
far side of the fence to get to the spring.
8/23/05 Cottonwood Creek log footbridge was gone; creek had stagnant muddy
pools.
8/22/05 Golden Oak Spring had an adequate flow into a water trough from a
pipe. We filtered and treated the water directly from the pipe. Cows had
been through the area.
8/21/05 No water cache at Tehachapi Pass.
Hope this is useful to SOBO thruhikers.
