[pct-l] SOBO here I come!

OK, I sent this message on July 13, right before I flew up to Vancouver, then started my hike on July 15. For some reason it is just being aired now.

I'm recovering. It was sad. I have been hiking long distance since 1984 and never a problem. I go on this trip and I get severe shins splints starting day one, my brand new sleeping bag (used two times) breaks a zipper on the first day, first couple of days out it rains on me..... I loved it, but after traveling 90 miles to Stehekin my foot was so swollen that I came home to save my vacation. Once I got home I found my pain intensified. I finally went back to work today, two weeks after I got back. Couldn't move before this. My foot is still swollen.

I want to hike 20-25 miles per day and was digging it. Next year I will start in Ashland and go NOBO. The level terrain will, I hope, prevent me from getting a repeat injury. I hope to use another month to do it.

Here I go. I've never been anxious before, but I'm stressed now. One
step at a time, HYOH..... It's going to be a wonderful month off work.
Manning, here I come!
