[pct-l] driving access at California-Oregon border

Hey Doug,

I driven the forest service roads to the PCT Oregon/California border in a
Buick sedan with no problem. However, if there are any large, late melting
snow banks left on the roads than you may have a problem. I would think that
there would not be any snow left on the roads but I cannot say for sure. The
road route is described very well in the Oregon/Washington guide book at the
begining of section A.

The basic route is as follows:
Highway 238 west from Medford through Jacksonville and into Ruch.
Head South at the turn off to Applegate dam. The turn off is in Ruch.
Follow this road and the Applegate river for about 9 miles.
Make a left turn at forest service road 20 and continue Up, Up, and Up for
about 14-15 miles.
Turn right at the fork of roads 20 and 2025. You are now on road 2025.
Continue on 2025 for about 4.5 miles and than watch carefully for the trail
intersection.
The border is a short walk south.

The area is very remote so make sure your gas tank is full and your engine
cooling system works well.
4WD and high clearance is not required unless there is snow. The forest
roads in this area are fairly smooth.

Hope this helps,
John C.
