I think that Meadow Ed's experience supports two rules for all backpackers:
>> Establish someone reliable as a contact person and known to all
involved. Keep that person informed of your status. Thus if you bail out
or stop before your pick up point that person has the information and
can advise others out supporting you, etc.
>> If delayed or early stop or whatever, contact your contact person
ASAP so others know your status.
