[pct-l] Pack Size

Andy,

I used the Osprey Aether 60 on my thru-hike in 2004. It's not the lightest pack out there, but it's comfort, versatility and bombproofness make it a good choice. My pack rarely weighed as much as 30-35 lbs, but when it did, the Osprey carried the load with ease. I used the same pack on the JMT in 2003 and it carried all my gear and 9 days food without the top lid attached, so volume is not a problem. The 3 mesh outside pockets are great for quick gear items or for a wet tarp! After over 3,000 miles, this pack shows little sign of wear.

I saw several Granite Gear "Vapor Trail" packs that had to be replaced due to the frame ripping through the material, and many of the various frameless packs being used fell apart and had to be replaced eventually. I heard no complaints from any of the many Aether 60 users I met last year...

Of course, this is my biased opinion, based on my experiences. So, I'm sure there are other opinions contradicting mine. But, since you are asking for recommendations, I would highly recommend this pack for anyone!

Steady

Subject: [pct-l] Pack Size

Greetings All,

I'll be heading out on the PCT in 2006. I was wondering what type and size pack most PCT hikers find to be adequate. I am looking at either the Granite Gear Ozone(3800 cu.in.) or Osprey Aether 60 (3900cu.in.). Any recommendations? Thanks.

Andy
