[pct-l] Sonora Pass today

This afternoon, Katy Warner and I went up to Sonora Pass from the west side
to see what conditions were like up there. It was patchy from about 6,500 to
8,000 feet and quickly became solid deep snow on north-facing slopes above
that up to the 9,600 foot pass. South slopes (north side of the pass) had
somewhat less with numerous bare spots. Snow line on the dry (east) side was
noticeably higher. We were excited to find about 30 feet of exposed PCT
treadway where it crosses the side road to the parking lot, and we even
found the PCT logo on a sign, barely poking above the snow. Lots of skiers
out there this weekend, all the way up to the top of the ridge(south side of
the pass). A very different world up there compared to what I saw last June.

At the Kennedy Meadows resort, the place was very busy, well stocked, and
they are already holding two thru-hiker packages.
