[pct-l] Pack animals on PCT

Animals are not allowed in some national park trails. And, I agree with
Marion, you need to be very animal savvy to make this work.

They are not motorcycles and a bad/tired/confused animal will wreck your
hiking plans faster than 20 feet of snow anywhere.

A friend of mine spent 5 years using one pack animal per year, including
goats, llamas, and a camel. He's working on a book about the experience. He
was very accustomed to animals previously. HIs favorite was the camel which
he still has, but his adult daughter who accompanied him on the treks went
out and got goats after the experiment was over.

He was not thu hiking, he was doing 150 mile sections. Llamas or horses work
better for thru trips than goats, which are limited by feeding needs to
about 10-15 miles per day.
