[pct-l] water comments - section E

Last weekend, thanks to trail angel Diane, I was able to hike from Hwy 138 to
Bouquet Canyon
Road in two days.

For northbound hikers, if any are left, there was plenty of water from Bouquet to
San Francisquito,
where one can fill up at the Ranger Station, and a little bit coming down to
Elizabeth Canyon.
After that, one needed to know four things about water to get to Hwy 138 over May
29-30:

485.2 Elizabeth Lake Canyon Rd

486.4 trailside spring running nicely, no camping nearby but nice dry camping in
pine flats
on the top of the ridge

493 or so - creek crosses PCT at head of Shake Canyon. Not mentioned in the
guidebook as
a water source, but running well and possibly as long as needed this season.
No camping here, but flat ahead at 494.8

500.3 - Red Rock Tank near "grassy saddle" where PCT nears road. The tank is up
above
the trail, visible to the vigilant. Lots of clean easy to reach water.
Camping possible
nearby, better ahead.

509.0 - Sag Pond was looking better than advertised. Being next to the road,
though,
one might prefer the creeks crossing the trail either right before or right after
the pond.
Camping possible near pond.

516.0 Hwy 138

As previously reported, trail condition is very good. Some small trees across
the trail
and some washout reroutes to be attended to.

Photos of some of the through hikers from Tyvek to Jewelthief can be found in my
photos
which are due for reorganization into better-explained order; they can be found at
