The ranger's may check for bear cans and permits but they won't check
you for boots! Lots of people go through the Sierra in trail runners.
I chose a lightweight mid-height boot when I did it but that doesn't
mean it's the right decision for you. Snow should'nt be a big concern
if you're starting late June in Manning. Have fun!
