[pct-l] Whitney area update

I called the Whitney ranger district this morning at 860-876-6200, option 0.  The Horseshoe Meadow road is closed at the gate at the bottom of the hill.   There is extensive debris on the road due to avalanches.   Mid-to-late June is estimated time the Cottonwood/Horseshoe trailheads will be open.  Hikers reported yesterday that the snow is deep and pervasive; attempts to get to Kearsarge pass were impossible for normal folks.  The snow is too wet for crampons and too steep for snowshoes.   The road to Whitney Campground is open, however the trail is covered with snow at the top of the switchbacks just below Lone Pine Lake.
