well, I suspect that it will certainly affect his plans, but Dave is 
no "ordinary" hiker/runner.  People like him can do all sorts of things 
that the average athlete cannot.   

Either last winter or the one before, a few guys did a winter snow-shoe 
trek of the Wester States Trail covering something like 30 miles per 
day in deep snow.  I am not sure how much mountaineering experience 
Dave has, but I am certain that he has the conditioning.

as someone else on the list said... "It will be interesting to find 
out" :-)
