Yes, 2 pounds per pair would definitely be on the heavy side. Actually, a
Bite hiking sandal usually is less than 1.5 pounds per sandal. I will check on
this and get back. Mine weigh less than 1.5 pounds each even with my added
modifications.
One thing you will notice about a good hiking sandal is the large sole. I
like this. Lots of surface to spread the load around and decent traction. And
of course with a sandal most of the weight is in the sole anyway. The
advantages of a cool foot and less, if any, blisters is a good trade to me for a
little more foot gear weight if your current footwear is really on the light side.
But others might strongly disagree. As Ray Jardin says, you really increase
your mileage by having light footwear -- if that is one of your goals.
Another thing about sandals. You look a little eccentric going down the
trail in sandals. That is cool too. There is nothing like banging down the trail
with your umbrella in the handsfree holder, two hiking poles, and your
sandals. What a sight. A lot of fun and of course we want to do anything we can to
stir things up on the trail with the hiking community.
Thanks and I will check on the weight of these particular sandals.
