I have hiked and climbed throughout the area and have never heard of Ski
Mountaineer's Pass. One route I have taken, which the Guidebook mentions is
Junction Pass. If you have the topo, check it out. When you get to the PCT
crossing of Tyndall Creek, do not cross, but follow the Shepherd Pass Trail a
bit over 3 miles and up a thousand feet to Shepherd Pass. About a half mile
over the pass and 800 feet down, you contour to the small lake that is due
north of the pass. From there, ascend northwest to the pass just east of
Junction Peak. From the pass, you descend north to Center Basin. There is a use
trail from the upper lakes down to the trail shown on the topo... down to
Golden Bear Lake. That trail runs into the PCT just north of Center Peak.
There is a bear box at this junction. It's not very difficult. It used to be
the trail before they blasted out the current route over Forester Pass.
