look a bit further back in the march postings for a
thread called "Is a groundcloth really necessary?" and
you'll see some opinions.

a groundsheet under a tent is really there just to
protect the floor of your (expensive) tent, not really
for water protection. if i use my tent, i almost
always use a groundsheet. but a groundsheet's also
nice for taking a break on - throw it down, put your
sleeping pad on it, and take a nap.
