You don't have to use the same box for the whole trip. Put together
your bounce box for the beginning, then add and subtract items as
needed. As the quantity of items in your box changes, you can use
a different box to accommodate those items. You don't need to worry
about finding boxes along the trail. There is an abundance of boxes
at every place hikers congrate. Hotels and grocery stores always
have boxes available, too.
You mentioned you wanted a box big enough to accommodate your ice
axes. You're not going to need to bounce your axes. Pick them up at
Kennedy Meadows and send them home from either Echo Lake/South
Lake Tahoe or Sierra City.
