[pct-l] Help! I need a GOOD suggestion...

Yes -- I'd suggest the PCT from the Mill Creek Summit Station (either north or south). To get there from Pasadena, turn left on Angeles Forest Highway off of Angeles Crest (Hwy 2). You can park up behind the ranger station at Mill Creek Summit (better than the picnic parking down by the highway). Going south, the Mt. Pacifico campground is a few miles up the road (now closed). There may be some snow, but the road and/or the PCT should be okay. If you head north, Big Buck campground isn't too far up the Trail.

Subject: [pct-l] Help! I need a GOOD suggestion...

(and lectures on preparedness and planning are NOT welcome here... conditions have changed, and we're not entirely familiar with the area, which is why I'm asking)

For those of you familiar with the hiking in Southern California, I really need a miracle of a tip.

Our time frame is to leave Pasadena tonight around 9-ish tonight and return by 1:00 on Saturday. Our original plan for a hike this weekend is backfiring due to weather. We were going to leave tonight after work up the Mt. Lowe Railway trail. However, due to the recent rainstorms, it's not looking to be safe to hike up in that area of the mountains. We want to make some miles this weekend without being terribly pinched by the time factor or the weather conditions.

Can anyone suggest a good hike near the Pasadena area, within an hour's drive, where we'd find camp in 3-5 miles from the break, and have a good loop to do on Friday? I know it's a tall order, but we've already wedged the schedule and arranged for time off (and babysitting at my end is a bitch to arrange). Any suggestions would be useful. Any suggestions made after 8:00 tonight would be pointless.

Thanks!!
