I was down in Temecula ( a bit north and west of Warner Springs) for a soccer 
tournament a couple weeks ago.  One of the hillsides facing south along 
interstate 15 was so densely covered in California poppies (the state flower) that 
it appeared to be gilded in solid gold from a distance.
