I've been reading some pro and con web pages on this issue and was wondering where the PCTA and the PCT community in general stand on it. Public comment is supposed to end tomorrow the 23rd. Here are a few links:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/wenatchee/planning/white-pass/deis/White-Pass-DEIS-Executive-Summary.pdf (environmental impact statement)
http://www.wawild.org/action/take_action.html (very much against)
http://www.skiwhitepass.com/expansion05.html (very much for)
My sense is that the alternative 4 proposal, supported by the White Pass company, is reasonable and provides needed growth for recreational skiing opportunities there. But it involves a reroute of 2000 ft of the PCT from under the proposed new lift to a track in the Goat Rocks wilderness outside the ski area. I guess I'm worried about where the PCTA stands on the relocation and who pays for it. I couldn't find anything on the proposal in the PCTA web site.
The Washington Wild position just seems obstructionist.
I'm a hiker, but I'm also a skier.
