[pct-l] umbrella holder

Of greater concern than foliage will be the wind, and the
need to hold the umbrella at various angles in order to
block the sun at different times of day. No one, to my
knowledge, has invented a device that holds an umbrella as
robustly or dynamically as the human hand.

However, for the deep-pocketed hicker, it may be possible to
hire a personal assistant who will walk immediately behind
you, shadowing your every move from Mexico to Canada with a
large-canopy "supershade" umbrella. Would also suggest
wearing an all-white outfit to help at those times when the
umbrella assistant requires a rest break, suffers personal
injury on snowbound passes, quits or is laid off during the
hike, or in a case of brolly malfunction. A white glove, or
two, help to shade the hands. Sequins are, of course,
optional.
