Ought not to be hot...
;)
And yeah, it's a total of about 3.2k of gain from the 74 to Saddle
Junction...
Up-up-up! (well, 3.2 gain over 30 miles...and starting at 4.9k...but
it's a start!)
But I tell you what: It ain't The Borrego. And I'm plenty happy for
THAT!
I'm looking forward to getting onto higher ground. I BELONG alpine!

Hey Mike I remember that section, I was by myself, long hot and seemed
to be all straight up. I left on a Friday morning around 0900hrs and was
at the parking lot in humber park on Saturday around 1900 hrs. I was
really crawling. I spent the night at J-65 one of those yellow triangle
T posts that designates a camp site. That's the only one I have ever
seen. Mid Saturday I was resting about a mile for Tahquitz peak and her
comes a couple, day hikers, they blew by me and were gone in a flash.
They were only carrying a couple of bottles of water. They sure made me
feel like a slug.

Maybe you mean the approach up Spitler from FoBes (I got it right!)?
>From FoBes (6k) the PCT climbs 1,200' to the flank of Spitler (peak is
7.6). It does this in about 1.25 miles.
>From Spitler to Apache, the topo reads generally as a ridge, dropping
to
7k, then back up to 7.4k. This happens in about 1.35 miles
Yeah, 1.2k in 1.25 miles is a bit of a climb. But it's only 1.25
miles...
So Steve- ya in?

the approach to apache peak has got to be one of the steepest sections
of trail on the entire PCT.....
man it's steep, rather challenging even with a day pack.
definitely an exception to the stock grade rule.
are there any steeper ?
and there's one b in fobes hahahaha fobes fobes !!
